Details:
For his eightieth birthday, the maestro of European jazz gifted himself and his friends “Nora”, a lavishly produced ballad album with strings and flugelhorn. The line-up includes loyal friends and companions, the strings arranged and conducted by two-time Grammy award winner Alan Broadbent. An obviously lasting collaboration that has worked so well that Ambrosetti is now following it up with “Sweet Caress”.
The string ensemble has grown into a 29-piece full orchestra with wind instruments, again arranged and conducted by Broadbent, who also takes on the piano parts here. The rhythm section is in the proven hands of bassist Scott Colley and Peter Erskine on drums. John Scofield also does on two tracks what he basically always does: with three strokes, he
leaves a mark that is as characteristic as it is lasting. And the velvety and passionate crooner tone of the flugelhorn hovers overeverything and weaves through everything. It is hardly surprising that this tone is so moving.
